More information on our Squad sessions

  • Children working in Squad sessions will work towards a higher level of skills on floor and apparatus, past those on our Foundation certificate programme. We have plans for Squad gymnasts to enter into competitions against other clubs and to work towards achieving awards for their hard work.

  • Every child is different, so please do not worry if your child has not been selected to join our Squad sessions. Our Foundation sessions are challenging and work towards our certificate programme which boasts an impressive set of skills for gymnasts to work towards.

We take many factors into consideration when selecting gymnasts to join our Squad classes, including: ability, age, experience, potential, behaviour, commitment and passion for the sport. If you believe that your child should be selected to join our Squad sessions, please fill in the contact form at the top of this page.

  • The children work in the same Squad group each week, with the same gymnasts and coach. This is to create a strong team relationship and a place to motivate each other to succeed. Occasionally, children will move between Squad groups. Similarly to being selected to join our Squad, this is dependent on ability, age, experience, potential, behaviour, commitment and passion for the sport.

If a gymnast is struggling to keep up with the progression of skills in their Squad group, it may be suggested by us that they return to Foundation sessions. This is not intended to be a punishment for the child, as we are looking for what is best for them and are placing them in a group where they are most likely to succeed. We reserve the right to do this at any time.

  • Firstly, we recommend that if your child is in a Squad, that they train multiple times per week (especially from development Squad upwards). One of their training sessions will be a recreational and Foundation session, with the other being their Squad class. This will allow them to progress their skills at a faster rate.

Secondly, we encourage parents to bring an extra water bottle or snack to their child's session. Squad children train in more intense sessions with more conditioning than recreational classes, so will need to stay hydrated.

Finally, we suggest that a club leotard and hoodie is purchased for your gymnast to help them feel part of their team in their Active Gym uniform!
